The Shadow

Definition. Entry Date 9/25/2004

It is common knowledge that definition is a primary element to understanding important issues, therefore it would be best to define certain key words that will be used in this weblog. The first word that needs to be defined is pedophilia itself.

Legal definition:

pedophilia

"n. an obsession with children as sex objects. Overt acts, including taking sexually explicit photographs, molesting children and exposing one's genitalia to children, are all crimes. The problem with these crimes is that pedophilia is also treated as a mental illness, and the pedophile is often released only to repeat the crimes or escalate the activity to the level of murder.

Standard definition:

noun

sexual desire for children: sexual desire felt by an adult for children, or the crime of sex with a child."

--- Encarta Online Dictionary

Psychological definition:

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 111-R), which is published by the American Psychological Association, supplies this definition of pedophilia: ?recurrent, intense, sexual urges and sexual arousing fantasies of at least six months duration involving sexual activity with a pre-pubescent child? (DSM, V.3, 1987).

...merely acting upon one's pedophilic urges is sufficient for a diagnosis of disorder.

--- (DSM, V.3, 1987).

I have created this weblog for the purpose of bringing into the light a very dark subject that should be discussed among us as responsible citizens. This particular weblog is not humorous, light-hearted or otherwise intended for entertainment. It is my intention to post current information concerning pedophiles and the legal system. I will hope to provide links to organizations that enforce sex predator laws as well as posting infromation about current cases, should I be able to find documentation concerning them. I am under the impression that pedophilia is becoming a socially acceptable behavior, though psychology has long pointed out that it is not a healthy situation for children to be in. My reason for believing that pedophilia is becoming socially acceptable is mostly from my observations of the media being delivered.
Given the sensitive subject matter of this weblog, I will not be posting links to sites which condon these behaviors, nor will I give information that I percieve as harmful to children in any way. I will simply be sharing information that I find which could be helpful in the prevention of the weakening of pedophile laws. As I stated earlier, the more we know and the more we discuss these offenders, the safer our children will be.
